Store Quotes by Les Claypool, Nancy Pelosi, Adora Svitak, Anne Tyler, Norah O’Donnell, Jill Soloway and many others.

I have a very difficult time describing my music. Because I run into people in the hardware store and they go, ‘Oh, you’re a musician. So what kind of music do you play?’ And I go, ‘Uh, I’ve been doin’ this for many years – I don’t know what to call it.’
I don’t know that anybody has walked up to me in the street or in a store or in the grocery and said to me, ‘I hope you bomb Assad.’ Certainly plenty have said, ‘No; thumbs down, thumbs down, thumbs down.’

For clothes, I like this little store on Fountain, Matrushka Construction. Beth Ann Whittaker and Laura Howe make amazing things. You can get a designer skirt with cool embroidery for 40 bucks instead of $400 or $4,000.
I’m not obsessed with the idea of doing what you’re supposed to be doing when you’re a rapper. Walking around with cash that you haven’t even provisioned for tax. Every single laundromat, grocery store, everything is called ‘Lupita’ in Mexico.
The distributor used to get 10, 12, 14 percent in most cases, but the App Store or Steam – they’re taking 30 points. So clearly, they’re viewing what they bring to the table in the digital environment to be more valuable than distribution.
What I love about travel and shopping is seeing how different retailers in London, Paris, and New York interpret the same collection. I like to find the best store in town and take a good look because there will always be a nuance that you just can’t get anywhere else.
Always be prepared if someone asks you what you want for Christmas. Give brand names, the store that sells the merchandise, and, if possible, exact model numbers so they can’t go wrong. Be the type who’s impossible to buy for, so they have to get what you want.

I like the fact that I’m from the South and that I have this rich history behind me. I come from a family of storytellers. They can’t just tell you how someone went to the store. They have to tell you who they saw, what they were wearing, what they said, what they had in their grocery cart.
One false word, one extra word, and somebody’s thinking about how they have to buy paper towels at the store. Brevity is very important. If you’re going to be longwinded, it should be for a purpose. Not just because you like your words.

Everything takes place right there. When I got knowledge of myself and thought about moving around the city, hip-hop was something that helped me.
Character development is what I value most as a reader of fiction. If an author can manage to create the sort of characters who feel fully real, who I find myself worrying about while I’m walking through the grocery store aisles a week later, that to me is as close to perfection as it gets.
After I retired, it seemed to me that there was a whole new world out there, which was a digital world driven by a marketplace, basically, which had a huge potential driven by handheld devices, which would one day become the virtual retail store of India.

You can’t have a U.S. Open anymore without an extra course to store all the hospitality tents. I used to be able to drive up to the clubhouse and park like the players. Now, there are seven corporate hospitality guys who have my spot, and I’m on a bus.
Nurses told my mother that I was going to be OK. They thought I could walk without a limp and without a brace. And we stopped in a shoe store on the way home and bought a pair of low-top saddle Oxford shoes, which was sort of a symbol that I was going to be a normal little boy.
And I had worked at the comic-book store almost by accident, because I was deciding to make a living as an artist, be it as an art tutor or illustrator, and that’s how I wanted to make my living.

You know, I lose patience really easily; I’d rather shop in the grocery store than in the department store. I can pick an apple like nobody’s business.
What’s important at the grocery store is just as important in engines or medical systems. If the customer isn’t satisfied, if the stuff is getting stale, if the shelf isn’t right, or if the offerings aren’t right, it’s the same thing. You manage it like a small organization. You don’t get hung up on zeros.
Most cornmeal producers don’t tell you when their cornmeal was milled, which makes it difficult to know how long the product has been sitting in the store before you bought it.

The first time I performed at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles, I was in the back of the room doing vocal exercises. ‘Me-me-me, my-my-my, mo-mo-mo.’ And I’m looking around, and no one else is doing it. I’m like, ‘They must have done it before they came to the club.’ I came to realize that I was an idiot.

I used to carbo load. But then I ran my first marathon, actually on a whim. All I could think of was that I needed protein. I remember going to the grocery store and buying one of those roasted chickens. I remember downing a bunch of that and, yes, I had some carbs, but that’s what I felt I needed.

In 2004, we opened our first store in Manhattan. I installed a big window so people could see me making the chocolates. That store cost $1.8 million. It has a 45-foot-long chocolate counter and a hot chocolate bar made in Louis XVI style because that’s when chocolate arrived in Europe.
In the U.S. and Canada, we have one store for every 12,000 people.
Jerry Bruckheimer is the most hands-on producer that I’ve worked with. Jerry’s very involved in the music, and he’s such a fan of film. When you watch him playing back the cues to the picture, he’s like a kid in a candy store.
For every R. Kelly or Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein, there’s, you know, the owner of the grocery store, the coach, the teacher, the neighbor, who are doing the same things. But we don’t pay attention until it’s a big name. And we don’t pay attention ’til it’s a big celebrity.

One of the things that strikes me is so many of the critics are people whose lifestyle doesn’t change when the price of fuel changes, or if they keep a Wal-Mart store out of their area.
Homemaking is whatever you make of it. Every day brings satisfaction along with some work which may be frustrating, routine, and unchallenging. But it is the same in the law office, the dispensary, the laboratory, or the store. There is, however, no more important job than homemaking.

We give great value for our franchisees: They can build a store for well under $200,000. And we have extremely simple operating systems. The preparation is mostly done in front of the customer. That simplicity is really what attracts our Subway franchise. You see it, and you can do it.
In my neighborhood, people were truckers and teachers and store clerks and bus drivers and everything else under the sun. But what they all had in common was that everyone was dependable and worked really hard. We all got what we needed, but it didn’t always come easy.

It’s like an OCD thing, it’s not as much something I enjoy. If I see a chapstick that I’ve never tried, I have to buy it. And then once that door’s been opened, I have to check the whole store to see if there are more chapsticks that I don’t have.
With a poetry book I can send 100 copies out to reviewers and other people, and even do it in advance and get their response. It’s difficult with iPad: how do you send it out for free, and how do you even disseminate it before it goes into their store?

There is a healthy amount of self-doubt and criticism with most people that make music. You find your areas that are your best. Onstage, I am good. But talking to someone in the grocery store? Forget about it.
Our hunting areas are the grocery store.
New Zealand was such a weird place in the 1980s. For instance, we used to have this commercial in the late 1970s where this guy drives this car and stops outside a corner store. He goes in to buy something, and when he comes out, his car is gone. He’s like, ‘Huh?’ Then a voice says, ‘Don’t leave your keys in the car.’
When I walk around my neighborhood, the grocery store, or the farmers market, I don’t see Democrats or Republicans, Progressives or Conservatives. When people are running up to me in the grocery store screaming, ‘Oh my God! Oh my God!’ that’s when I know I’m swervin’. As long as people are recognizing you and you matter to them, then you’re doing something right.
I fell for MUJI socks at their store in N.Y.C.’s JFK airport, and now I get them in bundles.
My heart really lies in my jewelry line, Archangel. I have really enjoyed watching the company go from nothing and slowly building it year by year, and getting into one store, then another store. And then I’ll see someone wearing a piece of it on the streets, and it’s all very exciting.
A great department store, easily reached, open at all hours, is more like a good museum of art than any of the museums we have yet established.
I am not a retailer – I have never run a store; I have never understood the full details of how you can make a consumer satisfied. To build a company, to do deals, to motivate people: this is what I am able to do.
From the time that I can remember, I worked to make money – either baby-sitting, or one year wrapping gifts at a department store at Christmas, so I could have my own money.
A Local Government Stationery Store is something to behold. It’s like walking through the back of a cupboard into a really dull Narnia.
I have the same sense of discovery and exhilaration from objects of design and everyday use – I am inspired by the buildings in my city, by park greenery and dazzling store windows, by the jaunty strollers and umbrellas and billboards I walk past. Just strolling our streets, we encounter creativity every single day.
As money, Bitcoin achieves two objectives; it’s both a unit of transaction as well as being a store of value. The U.S. dollar, for example, is a unit of transaction, but it is not a store of value.

And then you take those ingredients and you can make a good cake – or not.

The store experience must become a performance, with the energy and precision of a Broadway play.
I remember being a kid and seeing the ‘National Inquirer’ at the grocery store checkout line. When somebody actually picked up a copy, it was mortifying. You felt dirty for them. I was working at the store on the Sony studios in Culver City. And I was literally holding a shirt when they came in and told me I’d got the part! It just shows dreams do come true.
It’s what I do best – pry into people’s business and mind their business. I can’t help myself. I can’t even go through the grocery line of the grocery store without talking to people and then giving them my opinion.
Whether I’m making a recipe or a piece of jewelry or a white-rose-and-jasmine tea or the perfume, I like to think of myself as a happy little sorceress, and if I could just have a little general store with all that stuff and give people a sense of my taste, that would be lovely.
If people come to a record store, and they can’t find your album, they buy something else.
Spending time on the floor is really important. It’s great to work out of an office, but working the store gives you contact with the customer.
Most days I am in public. If I go to the store, with social media, I’m in public. It might as well be a press conference.
Shoot for a total of no more than 80 grams of carbs in your daily diet. This means favoring vegetables that grow above ground like kale, broccoli, spinach, and cauliflower as opposed to those that store carbohydrate in the form of starch like potatoes and beets.
‘Mr Selfridge’ is a lot more accessible than shows like ‘Downton.’ Everyone knows the store, but not everyone knows the story. Having this store as the backdrop with all of society working under one roof, I think it really captures people’s imaginations.
My grandma had a kids’ clothing store for over 30 years called Shannon and Company, and my sisters and I used to go and work there in the summers.
One day I was in the grocery store, and I saw raspberries, and I was like, ‘Oh, I can make a lip stain out of that.’
I think that ‘Mr. Show’ was a huge influence on me. It was literally the reason I started doing comedy, because I was asked to do a bit at The Comedy Store, and B.J. Porter and I went to see Bob and David – who I’d never heard of – do a live show, which was one of the shows that got them the ‘Mr. Show’ show.
A book store is a treasure chest. Every time you walk in one, you strike gold.

Typically you see the home office think up some great program but doesn’t think through implementation at the store level.
I sold Blockbuster because I saw what was coming: the satellite dish, technology that would make the business obsolete in a few years. Why would people go to a store for a video and then have to return it when they had a dish?
It’s taken me a long time to enjoy shopping. As a plus-size girl, you walk into a store, and it can sometimes be like a designer doesn’t know you exist. It’s become a fun treasure hunt.
Love making jewelry? Awesome! Find blogs that inspire you, follow people on social media who have great taste, start an Etsy store, and borrow a friend’s DSLR to take some beautiful photos of your craft. All of this costs $0.
I need to know how many records I’ve sold, how many album equivalents from streaming, which territories are playing my music more than others, because it helps me in conversations about where we’re gonna be playing shows or where I might open a retail location, like a pop-up store or something.
I love the Army-Navy surplus store Surplus Value Center. They have really good long underwear and multicolored bandanas, cool camo jackets, and really, really scary-looking knives. If you’re into that sort of thing.
My favourite store? Seize Sur Vingt in New York. They make most of my suits, and they are really cool people.
I went to a general store but they wouldn’t let me buy anything specific.
Indie bookstores love writers as much as they love readers, and there is something about a community store, where you walk in, you feel known, and the delight in books is just infectious.
I’m a video store guy. I like thumbing through things and holding them.
On the environmental front there’s concern about global warming and high levels of carbon dioxide, and trees take in CO2 and store carbon.
I don’t see people. I don’t see men and women at all. When I see them, I see… their mothers and fathers. I see how old they are inside. Like when I look at the president, or anybody in a record company, or a store owner, I may see a little boy behind the counter with the face of an old man. And that’s who I talk to.
Early on, when my wife and I were dating, we went to the grocery store, and I told her that sometimes I just buy birthday cakes, and I eat them. And she said: ‘Really? I do, too.’
I’m somebody who, if I went to the grocery store, and one of them wasn’t with me, I would feel guilty. I would be like, ‘I shouldn’t be doing anything without them, anytime, ever.’ A very codependent way of thinking. Also, motherhood is hugely about guilt.
I love the produce section at the grocery store.
Always farm fresh eggs, never store bought.
I go to the grocery store with my wife. She goes off to buy something. Where is she, anyways? So I ask the manager, ‘What aisle do they keep the wives in?’
My goal is to make Italian food clean and accessible and beautiful and tasty, with simple ingredients that people can find at a local grocery store, because people don’t want to go to a gourmet shop in search of items that will sit in their pantry for years after they use just a teaspoon or pinch of them.
I worked at the cosmetic counter at a fine department store.
In response to the making of DSMNY, a change in the Chelsea store became necessary. My flagship stores always have to lead the way.
The kind of contact that they make with the customer is what brings them back to shop. The experience, the feeling that you have in the store is what makes the difference.
To try to create a character without a whole lot of information can be taxing. At the same time, it’s fun to just stay on your toes and let the next bit of dialogue come in, and turn the page as you read the next script and see what they have in store for you next.
When people in Vancouver do recognize me, they hide it. I went to a store near my home and I know they’re ‘Battlestar’ fans – they have pictures on the wall! – and I know they know me, but everyone was so smooth and pretended I wasn’t there. Most people don’t realize how good they are at acting in everyday life.
One thing about my dinner parties – they’re never planned. I go to the grocery store, and I buy whatever is on sale. I get a lot of it, and I just send out a mass text: ‘I just bought food. Dinner’s at 8. Text me if you’re coming.’
My father was placid and easygoing. He owned a small shoe store where I helped out on Saturdays. I think he’d have been pleased if I’d made a career of working in the shoe store. But my mother was ambitious. She encouraged us to read books, and she pushed us toward a musical education.
It’s amazing how people will treat you better when you’re ‘somebody.’ The minute clerks in a store recognize me, they suddenly rush to take care of me. That irritates me.
In the US, you even lose legal rights if you store your data in a company’s machines instead of your own. The police need to present you with a search warrant to get your data from you; but if they are stored in a company’s server, the police can get it without showing you anything.
I kind of remember when I was young, I used to hang out with my dad sometimes. And I can remember just following him in and out of these domestic situations. Going to the grocery store, we’d go pick up my other brother, or we’d go here, go there.
Some people, they feel like they have to change and try to go out and do this or do things for the cameras. I’m myself at all times, whether I’m at a grocery store or I’m speaking to a school. I want to be as levelheaded and down to earth as possible, because that’s who I am.
I do remember going shopping with my mother; I think the name of the store was Ruth Atkins. I don’t know why I can remember that. It’s probably because it’s not the name.
In 1986, I was attacked in the street as I helped Neil Mullarkey from the Comedy Store Players to put up posters. We were in the wrong place at the wrong time – midnight – and we were English. I got kicked in the head.
Every place in the country you should get a license that shows you know how to safely store it, keep it away from your children or grandchildren. You should have to license it so the police can trace it if it’s used in a crime.
There’s a lot of American kids think their food comes from the grocery store and the concept of seasonality has no meaning to them whatsoever.
There’s no reason why there needs to be one search engine or one social network or one store that we buy all of our crap from. It’s possible to imagine a world in which there’s actually competition.
I definitely try to profile people at the grocery store based on what they’re buying.
Ideas come from life: what happens in mine, what I see happening in others’, mixed with a great deal of imagination. I might see a person in a grocery store and build a whole character and life out of what’s in her basket.
The older I get, the less I need. I wear the same jean shorts for the whole week. I’m not running to the store to get the latest bag.
God truly had a better plan for me than I had imagined. You never know what life has in store.
I do love to shop. But I’m a social shopper. I like to do it while hanging out with my friends. Some of them hate shopping because they treat it like something you have to plan, like a grocery list. But if I’m out and I pass a store, I just pop in.
I always liked Darth Vader. I remember, when I was a kid, I went to the toy store for the Darth Vader pencil case. I took that to school for years.
People pump gas and then they go in the store and pick up some things and pay for them, and they forget to mention the gas.
I started wearing wigs when I was younger and had a thyroid disease that made my hair fall out. It was devastating. I thought, ‘I could either have an issue with this, or I could go to the store and buy a wig.’ And then I fell in love with wearing them, and I stuck with it even after my hair came back.
People aren’t just paying more to fill their gas tanks or when they pay for their heating bills for their home; they are paying more at the grocery store, on air travel and for many other daily expenses.
I used to go and hang out at Patricia Field’s store when it was on 8th street before it moved downtown. Amanda Lepore would be there, and I would be obsessed with the shoes and the make-up – everything. I just knew it was a creative place that I wanted to be around.
I think it all comes down to relationships – how I treat my wife, how I treat my kids, how I treat the guys at the grocery store, all aspects of every day, what I’m involved in.
Truth is, people like buying things for $0.99 and $1.99 for their digital devices. We know that from iTunes. We know that from the app store, and now we know that from publishing.
If you have a busy natural foods store in your community, give their bulk cornmeal a try: high turnover means the product will most likely be fresh. And if the cornmeal is organic, all the better.
I did find some time to go to a record store and check out ‘Headstrong’ actually in the racks. It was pretty cool; I never thought I’d see my own CD sitting there with everyone else’s. I made my Mom take lots of pics!
My favorite way to cook is to look in my cabinets and see what I have. That’s the most fun. ‘I don’t have tomatoes, but I have this chili-garlic sauce from the Asian grocery store. Let’s throw that in there and see how it affects my beef barley soup!’
Before I was a reporter, I worked at a record store in New Jersey.
It is a well known urban myth that the French don’t trust banks and store their money under their mattress. It’s not that they are tight with money – they just don’t trust anyone.
The funny thing about the entertainment business is that we all feel like kids playing in a candy store, but we are entrusted with millions and millions and millions of dollars and an entire industry that can thrive or die on whether or not we do our jobs well or not.
I don’t take off my nail polish when I go home because I’m too lazy, and they’re fine with it. Maybe the checkout at the grocery store’s not so great with it, but they’re fine with it. The distrust, the phobias, those are learned, those are taught. But the natural grace is to understand and to love.
About 15 years ago I went though a period of a year or so when I just couldn’t find anything good. My wife noticed I was having trouble reading menus. I bought some cheap reading glasses in a drug store. I got home and suddenly all these books that weren’t good were good.
If you have a smartphone – and you have a smartphone – then you have a comic book store in your pocket. So you don’t have to get over any social anxiety you have about entering that space.
If I’m, like, in a grocery store, I don’t get recognized that much, but it’s like, you know, when someone comes up to me and says, ‘Hey, I’m a big ‘Pushing Daisies’ fan,’ you just feel like, ‘Oh, wow – you’re the one who watched it. So nice to meet you.’
In some markets, we don’t have a lot of room to expand. We’ve done studies of store density and essentially found our more dense markets have more than one store per 15,000 people.
As an artist, I’ve always felt most comfortable outside of the art supply store. So domestic materials are the ones that most help inform what I’m trying to talk about and our familiarity as a whole – kind of the collective us, I guess.
I have a magpie mind, by which I mean I see and hear little things – photos, fragments of conversation – and store them away for future use.
It was always a plan that we were going to have a retail side with what were doing musically, like an Apple store or Nike Town. I wanted something where you can come get everything – ‘Marathon’ or ‘All Money’ or ‘Crenshaw’ – and make it like an experience. Especially with what Crenshaw and Slauson meant to my story.
I came up at a time in the late ’60s, early ’70s where music was without boundaries. You’d go into a music store, and the music was in alphabetical order. I hadn’t heard of that word ‘genre.’
I like to do designs on the side of my face, or cut out foil stickers from the crafts store and put them on my forehead.

Going out into the world, I do feel like a kid in a candy store.
It’s something that black men still go through to this day, which is women clutching their purses, hitting the lock button on store, or just basic attitudes. And even as a U.S. congressman, as a black man, it is very, very frustrating, and you build up an internal anger about it that you can’t act on.
I do try to eat healthy, and I find that’s easiest when I just avoid the Doritos aisle at the grocery store.

Our guests, in fact, who buy online with Ulta Beauty and in our store is our best guest. But what she is buying online is quite incremental. She is not just replenishing like-items: she is buying new and exciting things all the time.
I’ve had a blessed life. I’ve pulled back from trying to control my destiny and gone back to accepting whatever fate has in store for me. I live for today because I don’t know what’ll happen tomorrow.
There’s a store in my neighborhood called Futon World. I like that name, ‘Futon World.’ Makes me think of a magical place that gets less and less comfortable over time.
All options to produce, transmit, and store electricity should be considered, driven by clear price signals and constructive government policy.
My dad’s job was to manage apartment complexes, so when people would move out or when people would die or whatever, people left things in their apartments, he would always bring me home people’s collection of music that they left behind. I was excited because I didn’t really have money to go to the CD store all the time.
I’d like to put together a think tank of people – economists, futurists, city planners, a few department-store people – to discuss reinventing the department store.
I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a hot dog or other convenience foods, as long as they’re balanced with fresh vegetables. It’s hard to ignore 95 percent of the grocery store.
The thing is, I don’t want to be sold to when I walk into a store. I want to be welcomed.
A lot of the things I did – it’s not going to sound anything but egotistical – if I’m lucky and I did the right thing, they will be at Zara way before I can get them in the store, and I don’t like that.

I was in New York and I walked into this pet store and came out with a dog.
The most attention I get is in a book store or video shop when I go to the foreign film section. Sometimes that can be fun, but usually those women want to talk about philosophy or something very dense. It’s not like they’re tearing off my shirt, you know.
I can’t say too much about it because I don’t know a lot. We’re not told what’s in store for our characters until we turn up to shoot the episode. But it’s fair to say that Betty and her son bring a brand new mystery to the street and they will be around all season.
I have this threadbare caftan from the ’60s that I got at a vintage store years ago – it’s basically a muumuu. My friends are astonished that I wear it, but I love it. It’s this light fabric that just moves with me.

One must realise his Self in order to open the store of unalloyed happiness.
On Apple’s special store for the Chinese market, apps related to the Dalai Lama are censored, as is one containing information about the exiled Uighur dissident leader Rebiya Kadeer. Apple similarly censors apps for iPads sold in China.
Once you’ve reached the point where you can pay rent, you can go to the vet and you can go to the grocery store, after that point it’s all the same. I don’t have the appetite for a decadent lifestyle.
It is a myth that art has to be sold. It is not like stocking a grocery store where people fill a pushcart. Art is a product that has no apparent need. The salesperson builds the need in the mind of the buyer.
I’ve learned to duplicate my beauty regimen from drug store products.
Poverty diminishes confidence. So if someone offers you a grain store, even if you really need a plough, you take what is offered to you.

I was in line at a store and there was a little girl, she was standing in line next to me and some other girls had come up to me and recognized me from ‘Pretty Little Liars.’ When they walked away, this girl was staring at me, and her eyes got so big, and she started crying. It was, like, the cutest thing.

Even as a kid, if I would come across something cool in the record store, that would be how I found out about bands. It’s kind of the same way these days. In a way even less because there are no record stores to go to anymore.
I am always on the lookout for new gear. If I walk into a Louis Vuitton store, and they have a belt that I don’t have, I want it straightaway.
When a black man is stopped by a cop for no apparent reason, that is covert racism. When a black woman shops in a fancy store and is followed by security guards, that is covert racism. It is more subtle than 1960s racism, but it is still racism.

I had really specific ideas of what kind of mom I was going to be and what kind of things I was going to provide for my child – even down to the organic, wooden toys Birdie was going to be allowed to chew on. Then cut to my daughter being obsessed with every plastic, 99-cent store toy.
Most American Jews came from the lower middle classes, and therefore they brought with them not a lot of Jewish culture. The American Jewish story starts with Ellis Island, and the candy store in the Bronx.

The label doesn’t do anything but put your record in the store, that’s all they do. And tell you, you don’t have a single… and tell you, it’s not gonna sell… that’s what the label does.
When my kids were toddlers, they had all these rotomolded plastic things. My life became surrounded by big, hollow plastic toys – from the scale of playhouses down to rocking horses, and everything in between – which we would then take to the secondhand store. But we’d get sentimentally attached and hate to see them go.
Most of my recognition comes from us winning that championship. The words may not come out – ‘Super Bowl III’ – because a lot of the folks at the grocery store, gas station or mall weren’t even born when we won the Super Bowl. But they’re aware of it. It has had a tremendous impact on my life since then.

Technology writers are seldom subject to frenzied, Beatlemania-esque paroxysms of public attention. June 29, 2007, was the exception. I was in the wrong place – Apple’s Fifth Avenue store in Manhattan – with the right device. The iPhone.
My first job with Walmart was unloading trucks in a warehouse. Then I worked as an assistant manager in a store, and I was lucky enough to get into our buyer-training program. I loved merchandising and had a career path that led me through Sam’s Club and Walmart International.

I definitely would say, by sixth grade, I was a professional shoplifter – and not because I wanted to. I’m not going out to shoplift earrings or clothes or shoes like the average teenager. I was shoplifting frozen dinners at a grocery store.
A simple rule of thumb is to shop the periphery of the grocery store – that’s where you’ll find meat, fish, dairy, and vegetables. Choose high-quality protein such as healthy, grass-fed beef and lamb and organic chicken and pork, and eat them in moderation.

I like eclecticism. To feel comfortable and not overdressed. I still like thrift store shopping, and I don’t like to put a lot of effort into what I’m going to wear.

You can’t deny the experience of a store. It’s fantastic if you’re a global brand and you’ve got the power or the funds to support that bricks-and-mortar space, but we certainly weren’t and aren’t.
We derive our vitality from our store of madness.
Store windows are like landing pages on the website.

I am the worst at the grocery store. It turns into three carts. It turns into, ‘Oh did you see the truffle cheese? We’ve got to get the truffle cheese!’
When I see old movies with women in floor-length dressing gowns, or when they’re going to the store and they’ve got a pillbox hat with a net over the eyes and white gloves, I’m offended that I can’t go to the store like that.
I’ve always been inspired by retail entertainment, whether Ralph Lauren or the Disney Store or Niketown.
I’m not in the clubs; I’m a homebody. I go out when I feel I have to for work or if there’s a special function. You might catch me at the grocery store, but you won’t see me out and about in Atlanta.
I was pretty nervous when I met Robert DeNiro. I kind of felt like a kid in a candy store for the first time. I couldn’t wipe the grin off of my face. But Bobby DeNiro was really, really sweet and made me feel very comfortable. He’s very low-key and just a superstar professional, and totally someone to be admired.
When I was a teeny little girl, I was in dancing school, and I sang. We had to put a dance to a song, so I went to the 10-cent store one day and looked at all the sheet music. It was all laid out, and I picked ‘Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries.’
I hate when people have food in their mouths and they don’t swallow before they talk. Like, they store it in their cheek when they talk to you. It drives me nuts.
Bitcoin’s revolution: an impossible-to-counterfeit digital store of value that can be used as money, that has no sovereign, or central bank involved, that can be sent anywhere instantly at virtually no cost, is irresistible. Anyone who uses it is converted.
When I was growing up in the early ’70s and really getting into music, waiting outside the record store for that 45, waiting for a single from The Dead, The Clash, David Bowie, or T-Rex or something to be there. There was something about that that was so special.
The U.K. and Ireland are like-minded on E.U. matters, and the process of working together in Brussels has built an immense store of knowledge, personal relationships, and trust between our governments.
I just showed up at the Comedy Store. You keep showing up, and you keep showing up, and eventually, somebody notices.

The deal is such that when I begin writing something, I open a door, and those characters come in, and then they won’t leave, and so I live with them every day, all day. They are there with me when I’m driving my kids to school, when I’m standing in line at the grocery store.
I went to a state school in Christchurch, New Zealand, and then straight on to the University of Canterbury. But I worked part-time all the way through high school: first with a paper round, then at a fast-food outlet, a video store and a hardware store.
I used to go to the comic store all the time. I was into comic cards, which are essentially baseball cards for comic book heroes. They have these cool stats on the back. I had collections of these things. I still have a lot of my collection at home.
Our guest likes the convenience of being able of drive up to the store and not necessarily walk through a mall to find Ulta. This kind of shopping has been trending for some period of time.
My family owned a furniture/appliance store near Kingston, Jamaica. I worked there all summer but lived in a very structured environment the rest of the year at an all-girl Catholic boarding school.
My grandfather had a paint store. It’s what put my mom through college. Small business is part of my family history.
I’m a girl who loves shoes. There is nothing like the feeling of trying on shoes at the store and they fit perfectly.
In ’82 and ’83, that was the rise of the VCR. Every Friday, my brother and I would go to Crazy Eddie’s – which was a video store in Manhattan – and rent five horror movies. And that’s basically what we did, basically, for three years. Becoming social misfits.
When I went back to visit my native Berlin after World War II, I noticed that the only thing I really remembered from my childhood Berlin days is the shoe store.
I don’t live in New York or California. I’m in the grocery store, at the park with my kids, and I’m a normal person. I’m feeding my chickens and agonizing about my next book!
Ninety percent of the day is working out. Sometimes I get my nails done and go to the grocery store.
I’ve always written. There’s a journal which I kept from about 9 years old. The man who gave it to me lived across the street from the store and kept it when my grandmother’s papers were destroyed. I’d written some essays. I loved poetry, still do. But I really, really loved it then.
Well, really the way worked was that I had probably built fifty robots before Mystery Science Theater, and I had sold them in a store in Minneapolis in a store called Props, which was kind of a high end gift shop.
Posterity makes the judgments. There are going to be a lot of surprises in store for everybody.
I always had a love for kids’ clothes, but having your own kids is a better education for what is practical. I used to buy such crazy things for the store that were so much fun but not the most practical.
I’m no sexual siren. I see prettier girls than me in the grocery store every day.
I pick up energy really easily. Even if I go to the grocery store, and no one is paying attention to me, I can pick up other people’s moods, and it’s really intense.
I think it’d be great to own a fun concept store with my friends and just sell books and records.
I was 17 years old when I built the first store… A very simple, basic store with a basic counter – not very much equipment, all purchased second-hand. And the menu was very simple.
I tell everybody there are only three things that we do. We build sales at the store level, we build profits at the store level, and we build more stores. The first two things go in tandem, of course. It’s pretty tough to build profits without sales.
A lot of people in line at the grocery store think that they know me, but they don’t.
My sons and I thoroughly enjoy Legos. We go to the toy store every week for more. I never want to take what we build apart; I want to put it on a shelf. My wife is starting to get a little annoyed with the Legos lying around.
We don’t view the App Store as a really big opportunity for dedicated games.
I do think I have a lesser ability to remember facts and names than I have done previously, because you never have to store them; you just look them up again. I could make the same recipe 15 times, but I’ll never, ever remember how to make it because I’ll just look it up.
I know this is hard for people who live in rural communities, but if you can, walk to the store. You will help the environment and get a little workout.
Writers are outsiders. Even when we seem like insiders, we’re outsiders. We have to be. Our noses pressed to the glass, we notice everything. We mull and interpret. We store away clues, details that may be useful to us later.
I was always a kid trying to make a buck. I borrowed a dollar from my dad, went to the penny candy store, bought a dollar’s worth of candy, set up my booth, and sold candy for five cents apiece. Ate half my inventory, made $2.50, gave my dad back his dollar.
I think that if you haven’t been to the grocery store in a really long time, it’s really easy to get very out of touch.

You’d be surprised how inspired you’ll be when you go into a different store than the one you normally go to for gifts.
There’s nothing I’d never wear, really. I’ve worn pink spotty pajamas from a Goodwill store onstage before. This only happens when I’m having a small breakdown!
I don’t like precious things; I don’t spend thousands of dollars on jewellery for myself. I like going into a junk store and finding something for five dollars. That’s my style.
People want to think that staying in shape costs a lot of money. They couldn’t be more wrong. It doesn’t cost anything to walk. And it’s probably a lot cheaper to go to the corner store and buy vegetables than take a family out for fast food.
I get up at 7:30. I grab a canvas bag and go out. I say hello to the people in the supermarket and liquor store. I buy the ‘New York Times.’ I go to the beach and think about characters and plot.
As for environmentalism, I’m only an environmentalist by accident. I live in New York, so I bike, and the closest grocery store to me sells organic produce. I also shop with a book bag because I ride a bike, and it’s hard to carry the paper or plastic bags.
Then I was working in a store in Newark, New Jersey, and I saw an actor in person, and I got so excited. My whole day changed. That’s when I decided to challenge myself to make my dreams become a reality.

I saw a stationery store move.
All images generated by imaging technology are viewed in a walled-off location not visible to the public. The officer assisting the passenger never sees the image, and the officer viewing the image never interacts with the passenger. The imaging technology that we use cannot store, export, print or transmit images.
It was at the department store where people got away from provincialism.
The next time you hear me attacked as a socialist – like tomorrow – remember this: I don’t believe that government should take over the grocery store down the street or control the means of production. But I believe that the middle class and the working families who produce the wealth of America deserve a fair deal.
After leaving school, I got a job in a department store not dissimilar to Grace Bros in ‘Are You Being Served?’
When I was young, I loved shopping at a store on Rodeo Drive called Lina Lee. Shopping there made me feel so special.
The last thing we need is yet another makeup company. Even I have a nervous breakdown when I go through the department store makeup floor.

In the 1950s in Columbia, South Carolina, it was considered OK for kids to play with weird things. We could go to the hardware store and buy 100 feet of dynamite fuse.
I have been known to go to the grocery store and just buy pepperoni. There’s just something fantastic about salty, fatty meats.
I look at other people’s lives, and some people feel like they’re too old to play with toys. But I still go through the toy section at the store, ’cause there were toys that I wanted when I was little that I couldn’t have. So I still get them.
You can’t change what time has in store for you, as the only constant that I’ve known is change.

I feel like a Mac store! I have a Canadian iPhone, an American iPhone and an iPad. I’m constantly downloading music to iTunes.
Only a certain number of people go to a store over the period of a year. When a person sees my record on the shelf, it eliminates someone else’s record from being sold. It’s about continuing to try to find new ways to sell records.
My earliest memory from childhood is of fishing with my father. And I remember vividly we were in a store, and we were buying a pup tent to go on our first camping trip.
In government, our chief executives have been lawyers. The great majority of our cabinets and congresses are and have been men trained in the law. They have provided the leadership and the statecraft and the store of strength when it was needed.
Japan is brilliant for vinyl. There’s all this rare stuff that I’ve been looking two years for, and you walk into a store, and you find it straight away.

Who’d have thought that living life like a dime store floozy throughout your formative years could negatively affect your decision-making ability or long-term, future relationships?

Scientists have continued to tinker with different elements and have learned new ways to store and deliver energy.
If every other store in town is paying workers $9 an hour, one offering $8 will find it hard to hire anyone – perhaps not when unemployment is high, but certainly in normal times. Robust competition is a powerful force helping to ensure that workers are paid what they contribute to their employers’ bottom lines.
When I first decided to launch a clothing line, I was pregnant with my daughter Spencer-Margaret, so I looked for a retailer with values that mirrored my own growing family concerns. Kmart is a family store where value-conscious moms shop, so my partnership with Kmart seemed like a natural fit.
I’m better with my hands, and I always loved the slightly romantic idea of starting with bits of wood and being able to create something to sit on, to eat from, to store your clothes in.
When I’m doing a store in a country, I always like to consider the concept of the country and the city. Ask what are the clothes of the city, what does this city represent for me?
If I opened a record store, it wouldn’t be all punk rock and esoterica.
Content is supposed to be king. But in the world of electronic devices, Apple seems to be placing the crown on its own head, apparently believing that its iPad and iPhone are more important to customers than the books, movies, and music they store on them.

A lot of people, when they see my career, they hear or remember, ‘Sat on the bench four years in college, got cut by the Packers, worked in a grocery store, and then won the Super Bowl.’ That’s kind of the timeline the people see when they hear ‘Kurt Warner.’

A text may be superbly written, exquisitely subtle, deeply meaningful, but still seem like a luxury extra, something we add to the already well-stocked store of our reading experience.
The first thing you see when you walk into a store is color.
A store is just a collection of content. The Steam store is this very safe, boring entertainment experience. Nobody says, ‘I’m going to play the Steam store now.’

It’s not exactly under the radar, but when I’m in London, I love to visit Liberty. It’s my favorite department store, and they have a room entirely dedicated to chocolate and truffles.
Knowledge comes, but wisdom lingers. It may not be difficult to store up in the mind a vast quantity of facts within a comparatively short time, but the ability to form judgments requires the severe discipline of hard work and the tempering heat of experience and maturity.
When I was thin, I had no notion of what being fat is like. When I worked in a department store, I had sold clothes to women of most sizes, so I should have known; but perhaps you have to experience the state from the inside, to understand what fat is like.
Whether I’m doing music or I’m walking down the street or I’m in a record store buying a record or I walk into a comic store and I’m buying comics or having a drink with my friends, it’s the same me.

I feel like a little kid who just walked into a candy store. I think that’s something to smile about.
Any time I claimed to be white, that would be unacceptable. It just doesn’t make sense in people’s minds. If I’m white, how can I walk through a department store and still have people scared that I’m going to rob them? Which, that can still happen.
Jack was out kissing babies while I was out passing bills. Someone had to tend the store.
If I get recognized, it’s because someone notices me at the checkout counter at the grocery store. I really live a very normal life and have been able to keep my privacy.
I’ve been able to find just as much interesting, exciting music through the Internet and iTunes… The personal interaction is not the same, and I’m not walking out of a store with a physical thing, so there’s definitely an element that is lost, for sure.
When a mother goes to the store and purchases food for her child, she has the right to know what she is feeding her family.
If I get to a place early in the morning, I try to walk around by myself. I still try to find cool places to go to, like a record store in St. Louis or some restaurant in Chicago.
When I was living in Boston, I worked in this store that played the college radio station. I had to listen to it all day, and I didn’t care for most of it.
I worked at a hot dog place, a bagel place, the Jersey Store and the hottest fashion joint around. I was getting too famous to work there anymore. I was almost showing up as a joke. I made $2,000 on my show the previous night and I’m going to go shopping during my five-hour shift.
Form the habit early in life of leaving your business at the store or wherever you may be employed. Never carry it home to mar the peace of your family; if you do, you will soon drive out the sunshine.
From age nine, my friends and I were on the streets, walking home, going to each other’s houses, going to the store. I really wanted to write about that: the independence that’s a little bit scary but also a really positive thing in a lot of ways.
It’s only I have seen enough of it and the funny thing is now, I know that I’m skinny, because I know there are even smaller clothes in the store. I think I’m big, when I was big, I never thought about it.
We were so poor. Every item of clothing came from a thrift store.
I loved growing up in a little town. I loved knowing people. I loved going to the store and running into people. I loved going into the store and having forgotten my bag, saying, ‘Charge it, put it on my bill.’ I loved going to the gas station and saying, ‘Pete, fill it up.’ I loved that continuity of life.

I’d go into a department store now and buy everything. It’s who I am. I just love cosmetics.
The idea of ‘Freedom’s Goblin,’ to me, leads to a wild conversation. I would hope that father and son, driving home from the record store, could have a conversation about what that title means. Because to me, it’s the duality of being free: the evil and the good, and how it’s a constant paradox.
If the store were your own business, you’d escort the customer to a product’s location in the store and refer to the customer by name.
I really think the app store is kind of the killer app for Apple and for Google.
My first CD that I had was the Ying Yang Twinz, and my grandma bought it for me. Honestly, I think my grandma got it from a thrift store or something. She just got it for me. It was in downtown Philadelphia. And I would listen to it. I liked it. None of my friends did, though, but I liked it.
Pack snacks. Food prices once you pass through airport security or within blocks of a major tourist attraction can be double the price. Pack travel-friendly snacks or visit a grocery store in the destination you are visiting to get a better price.
A friend suggested that I get a job at a children’s book store so I could meet kids and read books, and that turned out to be the single best bit of advice I’ve ever gotten.

I like Bloomingdales, and I like a store called Scoop.
When it comes to a vintage store, we’re not concerned with men’s or women’s. I want you to treat it like no other store. Just find stuff that you love and go for that.
I definitely don’t want to only make music in the Christian genre. I want to expand and kind of dive into whatever else is in store. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love what I get to do as well.
Building a consistent experience and firm identity was instrumental in our ability to swiftly build our online presence, open four stores as well as a mobile store in a converted yellow school bus, and launch six shops-in-shops.
We think wireless is going to grow tremendously. Do I think people are going to watch an episode of ‘Survivor’ on a 2-inch television set? I doubt it. But I do think somebody’s going to go to a grocery store in the middle of a football game and watch that game.
I’m not too big on accessories, but I love my basic black quartz watch from American Apparel. It’s a simple piece that goes with my vintage, thrift store chic style.

I believe that the concept of ‘design’ encompasses every aspect of customers’s exposure to a brand, from the moment they hear about us to the first time they visit our store to the process of ordering and anticipating the arrival of their glasses.
My bookshelves have no order. I prune them regularly and sell the books to Myopic Books, a Chicago bookstore. They give me store credit, and then I spend all the store credit, and, presumably, return to sell them back more of the books I bought from them.
I’ve had to stop going to the nearest grocery store that seems to play Shania Twain’s ‘Forever and For Always’ whenever I’m there. It’s hard to shop for frozen entrees through cold-air blasted tears. Feels good on a flushed face though.
I was always the new kid in school, I’m the kid from a broken family, I’m the kid who had no dad showing up at the father-son stuff, I’m the kid that was using food stamps at the grocery store.
I don’t even like DVDs. Honest to God, in my lifetime, I might have rented a dozen DVDs, literally gone into a video store and rented a dozen DVDs in my lifetime, because I don’t like to see movies that way. I like to see them on the big screen.
I think by my father owning a store, I was definitely aware of the commercial aspect of selling clothes. His shop was a place I enjoyed spending time in as a boy, so I learned things almost by osmosis at times, by literally just being around all the action and not really despite myself.
I got fired from my first job in a store when I was a student because I kept wearing my own things, and people kept asking me where they were from, and the owner of the store got annoyed with me. So I got fired because I couldn’t afford to buy the clothes from the store.
Galleries are easier to steal from than the Apple Store, maybe.
When the business really works is when we hear clients say, ‘I’ve never had jeans that fit me until I got a pair from Stitch Fix.’ We’ll also hear, ‘I would never have tried this dress on in a store.’ It’s not just about convenience. They’re happier in their clothes.
Maybe Christmas, the Grinch thought, doesn’t come from a store.
Coast is my go-to store for any awards do – it’s brilliant for occasion wear.

I spend five times more money at a chemist shop than I would at a fashion boutique. Clothes shopping is optional for me; shopping at a chemist store is a must.
Wal-Mart is an amazing success story. What I particularly admire very much about the late Sam Walton was his policy of valuing his employees. Giving value to employees is very rare in the retail industry. I also admire the strategies Walton used to build up his discount store concept.
My work space is so visually crammed. It’s like an insane candy store. The number of textiles I’m surrounded with is mind boggling. It’s a treat to come home to a nice negative space.
I did work at a mall in college – I think retail/customer service is just one of the most hideous jobs in the world. So I always try to be extra nice when I go into a store. But malls are part of our culture, if you watched any teen comedy in the ’80s. it’s clear that malls are where we live!
I used to overpack a lot and sometimes even forgot vital pieces of clothing, such as my swimming shorts and sandals. I’m much better now. I only take what I know I’m going to wear or use and always double-check my suitcase so I don’t have to rush to the nearest clothing store when I unpack at the hotel.
I grew up with the Blind Boys’ music. My family owns a music store in Claremont, California, called The Claremont Folk Music Center. I grew up with a heavy diet of gospel, folk, and blues because those are kind of the cornerstones of traditional American music.

In late 1999, I was walking down Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks with my late producing partner Sharyn Lane after a day of editing ‘Sordid Lives.’ We passed the Psychic Book Store and decided to go in and get a reading. We weren’t believers, but what the hell? We needed a sign.
I’ve never known a musician who regretted being one. Whatever deceptions life may have in store for you, music itself is not going to let you down.

There are considerable advantages to using many degrees of freedom to store information, stability and controllability being perhaps the most important.

It’s very easy to get excited about a job, but it’s a big commitment because you do it and then you have to live with it when it’s finished. It’s forever in your section in the video store. It’s you. It’s almost like deciding who you have a child with.

I tell myself that some names can be mistakes, like Mxyplyzyk, a store in New York that lost customers because few could spell its name to look up the address. I tell myself that lots of writers agonize over titles, and often get them wrong at first.

I’m an anorak. I’ve always been an obsessive collector of things. Richard Briers collects stamps. I collect cars and guns, which are much more expensive, and much more difficult to store.
My father ran a corner drug store where he worked night and day, seven days a week, until he died of a stroke. He literally worked himself to death.
If you are going to store your e-wallet on your own server, don’t keep your e-wallet on your desktop, and make sure you use encryption. If you lose your computer, your bitcoins are lost forever.

Before ‘Gremlins,’ I was a normal person, then within two weeks of the movie coming out, I couldn’t walk into a store without people turning around and staring. It’s exciting and also scary because everyone starts telling you how amazing you are.
I went to a record store and asked for 50 cent. They kicked me out for pan-handling.
These songs are old friends I have entertained myself with when I’m washing the dishes, driving to the store and walking down the aisles. The ones that you sing when you’re driving in the car and as a singer you always go back to them.

Honestly, being a store manager was the best job I ever had.
A little dark chocolate in small amounts often helps lift me out of those blue moments. When I walk into my favorite store on Union Street in San Francisco that sells high-quality chocolates from around the world, I feel like, well, a kid in a candy store.
Arguably, the first five years of ‘Saturday Night Live’ were some of the most radical things ever seen on television. When NBC said, ‘Okay, you can do a show from 11:30 to 1 on Saturday night,’ they didn’t think anyone would watch. It was like giving a piece of the candy store to the kids.

They are feted quietly and happily by a minority, but there’s only so much hoopla applicable to them.
When my parents were dating, they were very poor, so my dad couldn’t take my mom out. They would go to the grocery store and pick out funny looking vegetables. When I grew up, we’d still go and find the ones with personality.

A lot of times, in a store, clothes appear strange to me, their cuts or flourishes arbitrary. Why is this look stylish now? How long will it be stylish for?
